3 O's of Discipleship

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you." - Matthew 28:19-20

Owning it. To become a student and follower of Jesus, there’s a lot that I have to own. I need to own my sins. I need to take responsibility so that I can truly repent of them. I need to own my spiritual poverty. Without Jesus I am morally bankrupt. There is nothing that I have on my own. By His grace, I am what I am.

Open Hearted. I also need to be open hearted. There are lots of errors in my life that need to be corrected. There are a lot of areas that I need to grow in and change. I need to be open hearted, allowing God’s word to saturate all aspects of my heart and mind so that I can be fully renewed after His image. I can hold nothing back in my discipleship.

On the Table. I might not be called to give and sacrifice everything, but everything that I have and am should be on the table. All the possessions that I have should be on the table to be taken, used, or given in God’s service. All my talents and abilities should be on the table as well. My comfort and life should also be on the table. I need to take up my cross and follow Him wherever that journey may take me. All needs to be on the table because if I gain or keep the whole world and lose my soul, it will never be worth it.
