Is Jesus Enough?

Is Jesus Enough?

“For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.” - 1 Corinthians 2:2

Today churches try to attract crowds with various forms of entertainment (music, plays, guest speakers, etc) and a variety of services (daycare, preschool, AA meeting, youth groups, etc.). Many, not all, do this with good intentions of drawing crowds with the hope of offering them more later.

The New Testament church did none of these things. They did not offer entertainment nor services. This was not because they were unintelligent nor were they creative. The reason the church (as established by Jesus) did none of these things is this: Jesus’s church is about worshiping him, not about social services or entertainment. Jesus was enough for them. The people who were joined to His body and added to His church (Acts 2:47) were satisfied with knowing Jesus and worshiping Him.

People are no different today. Today Jesus’s church will find Him enough. Today, those who are joined to His body and added to His church will be satisfied with knowing Jesus and worshiping Him.

Is Jesus enough for you? If all you got out of church was to worship Jesus reverently with others, without any entertainment or services provided to you, would that be enough?
